Ash-Shams
وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا1
By the sun and its brightness1
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا2
And [by] the moon when it follows it2
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا3
And [by] the day when it displays it3
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا4
And [by] the night when it covers it4
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا5
And [by] the sky and He who constructed it5
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا6
And [by] the earth and He who spread it6
وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا7
And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it7
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا8
And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness8
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا9
He has succeeded who purifies it9
وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا10
And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]10
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ11
Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression11
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا12
When the most wretched of them was sent forth12
فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَٰهَا13
And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink13
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا14
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]14
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبَٰهَا15
And He does not fear the consequence thereof15
