Al-'Alaq
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ1
Recite in the name of your Lord who created1
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ2
Created man from a clinging substance2
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ3
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous3
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ4
Who taught by the pen4
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ5
Taught man that which he knew not5
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ6
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses6
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ7
Because he sees himself self-sufficient7
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ8
Indeed, to your Lord is the return8
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ9
Have you seen the one who forbids9
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ10
A servant when he prays10
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ11
Have you seen if he is upon guidance11
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ12
Or enjoins righteousness12
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ13
Have you seen if he denies and turns away13
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ14
Does he not know that Allah sees14
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ15
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock15
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ16
A lying, sinning forelock16
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ17
Then let him call his associates17
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ18
We will call the angels of Hell18
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩19
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]19
