Hamza al-Kufi

Hamza ibn Habib al-Zayyat al-Kufi (80–156 AH / 699–773 CE), one of the Ten canonical reciters. He was renowned for his piety and devotion, and received the qirāʾa from Successors whose chains trace back to Ali ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Masud.

Hamza's qirāʾa belongs to the Kufan school and is distinguished by notable phonetic features, including the sakt (brief pause on a sukun before hamza) and extended madd, making it one of the more demanding recitations in performance.

주요 지리적 지역

Hamza's qirāʾa historically spread in Kufa, the eastern lands, and parts of Anatolia. It maintains its presence in qirāʾat centres, although the Hafs recitation now predominates in those regions.
